Automated External Defibrillation (Level 2)

The Automated External Defibrillator course is four hours and is designed to be delivered in one day. The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, including practical assessment on CPR and AED. The course will be delivered using a variety of methods including: • PowerPoint Presentations • Flip Chart Exercises • Guided Group Discussions and Activities • Practical Demonstrations and Training The AED qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for two years.

Description

This 4-hour Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Programme is for anyone over 16. Knowing how to use an AED could save your family, friends, or co-workers' lives if they have a cardiac arrest. After completing an RLSS UK AED course, candidates receive a Level 2 Award in Automated External Defibrillator qualification. 

RLSS UK’s Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Programme is CIMSPA endorsed, which means it has been quality-assured by CIMSPA. 

The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Programme is regulated by OfqualQualifications Walesand CCEA in Northern Ireland.

Prerequisites

Candidates must be a minimum of 16-years-old at the time of taking the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Programme, and no prior first aid knowledge is required.

Course Assessment

The course syllabus and practical skills are continually assessed by the course trainer. The assessment will include verbal question and answer sessions and practical demonstrations of CPR and AED.

Requalification

This course is valid for 2 years upon date of completion, candidates will need to complete a new course before this date to re-qualify.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, candidates will be able to:

1.1  conduct a scene survey of an incident

1.2  conduct a primary survey of a casualty
1.3  summon appropriate assistance when necessary
1.4  identify key elements of the chain of survival

2.1 identify when to administer Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

2.2 demonstrate CPR using a
       - Adult manikin
2.3 demonstrate the safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
2.4 demonstrate CPR and the use of an AED were there is more than one rescuer
2.5 demonstrate CPR using a pocket mask on an adult casualty
2.6 identify how to administer first aid to a casualty who is experiencing a seizure
2.7 justify when to place a casualty into the recovery position
2.8 demonstrate how to turn an unconscious casualty into the recovery position
2.9 demonstrate action for regurgitation
2.10 demonstrate how to place a casualty into the recovery postion
3.1 identify the safety considerations to take when using an AED
3.2 identify basic AED checks

The Anaphylaxis Management course teaches candidates how to recognise a casualty with anaphylaxis and provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty. This 4-hour Anaphylaxis Management training is available as a standalone course or can be added to one of our other first aid qualifications. After completing an RLSS UK Anaphylaxis Management course, candidates receive a Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis.
